Notice of Termination of Services of
E-bookstore Apps “BookGate Series” and E-book Apps

Kosaido Co., Ltd. (head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and Representative Director: Atsuo Nagayo) will terminate services of e-bookstore apps BookGate Series (i.e., BookGate, BookGate JAPAN, BookGate☆Korea and BookGate Cafe) and e-book apps* offered through App Store and Google Play on Monday, August 31, 2015.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to many users for their patronage since we started distributing e-books through BookGate in August 2010.

E-books will no longer be sold via the BookGate Series apps or e-book apps on and after Tuesday, June 30, 2015, and all services of the apps will be terminated on Monday, August 31, 2015.

While you will be able to continue reading e-books that have been downloaded to the mobile phone/device you are currently using, the e-books may become unreadable in some cases. For details, please refer to Cases in which e-books may become unreadable after termination of services and Frequently Asked Questions.

We apologize to our users for any trouble and inconvenience this may cause. Your understanding will be highly appreciated.


* E-book apps refer to apps by which Kosaido sells e-books on a title-by-title basis in App Store and Google Play.

Q.Will e-books become unreadable after the termination of the services?
A.You will be able to continue reading e-books that have been downloaded to the mobile phone/device you are currently using. However, you will no longer be able to read the e-books if, for example: the mobile phone/device you are using malfunctions; you replace your mobile phone/device with a new one; the OS is upgraded; the app is deleted from the mobile phone/device; the e-book is deleted from the bookshelf; or the mobile phone/device is restored to its factory default settings.
Q.Can I read e-books downloaded via BookGate by using other e-book apps?
A.You cannot read them by using e-book apps other than BookGate.
Q.When will e-books become unavailable for purchase?
A.You will not be able to purchase them from Wednesday, July 1, 2015 onwards.
Q.How long will they be available for re-download?
A.You will be able to re-download them until. Monday, August 31, 2015.
Q.When I try to re-purchase an e-book that I have already purchased, a dialog box stating “In-App Purchase” will pop up, where I have to choose either “Cancel” or “Purchase”. Will I be charged twice if I tap “Purchase”?
A.Double billing will not occur even if you tap “Purchase” for e-books that have been purchased once.
Q.What should be done when “touch” appears for a purchased e-book in the bookshelf?
A.If you tap “touch”, a dialog box stating “Download?” will pop up, so tap “YES”. A dialog box stating “Sign In to iTunes Store” will pop up. Enter the password for your Apple ID and tap “OK”. A dialog box stating “In-App Purchase” will pop up; please tap “Purchase”. Double-billing will not occur even if you tap “Purchase”.
Q.Up to which version of OS is supported?
A.Versions up to iOS8 are supported. (Versions up to iOS7 are supported by BookGate JAPAN.)
Q.Is there any way to retain the e-books?
A.As long as you continue using your mobile phone/device in its current state, you will be able to read the e-books. However, you will not be able to read the e-books if, for example, the OS is upgraded, the app is deleted or the mobile phone/device malfunctions after the termination of the services.



[How to re-download an e-book]

If there is an e-book that you cannot currently read in the BookGate Series app, please re-download it by the following method. In the Android version, please re-download the e-book from the purchase history of My apps. Please re-download e-books before the service termination date, i.e.,
Monday, August 31, 2015.




(1) Tap the settings button on the top screen of the Store.

  • Press the “Gear Mark” button on the top-right corner of the top screen of the Store.
  • A dialog box will pop up.
  • The bottom field of the dialog box will be “Check purchased e-books”.
  • Tap “GO” in blue text.
  • Tap “Check purchased e-books” displayed at the bottom of the screen.

* In the iPhone version, no dialog box will pop up; instead, the entire screen will change.
* In BookGate for iPhone, the “Settings” button will appear on the bottom row.
* In BookGate Cafe for iPhone and iPad, please tap the “Purchase History” button on the bottom row.

(2) Enter the password for your Apple ID.

  • In the center of the screen, a dialog box stating “Sign In to iTunes Store” will pop up.
  • Please enter your password of Apple ID.

(3) Tap the title from the list of purchased e-books.

  • A dialog box stating “Purchased e-books” will pop up again on the top-right corner.
  • Tap the title of the e-book shown there.
  • Re-downloading of the e-book will commence.
